Logo And Personal Style Guide

October 6, 2019

Assignment:

Create a brand for yourself including a logo, palette and typography. For the logo show your sketches and the process from ideation to completion. Document your brand in a personal style guide.

I pulled my color pallet from the color assignment. The dichroic pass through and reflected wavelengths speak to me.

In order to create a logo I first made a handful of sketches. Logos made up of initials speak to me. I am a big fan of geometric shapes and simplicity. In particular, I love the Lebron James logo. I also drew inspiration from the Pentagram designed MIT Media Lab logos.

I liked the logo where you could see the “A” and then hopefully the “L”. I narrowed down the coded logos to this set of 12 to figure out the most legible color pattern.

I settled on a light blue for the negative space and added a border so the overall design was more legible. I also cleaned up the stroke weights so that the legs of the A match the crossbar and the L. Looking for feedback: Does it look better without a border? Does it look better with the triangle on the L?

For my fonts, I chose Josefin Sans (regular) for headings and titles and Montserrat (medium) for body text. I like the simplicity of the font which lads to easy readability along with a bit of flourish on the “e”. The x-height is unusual as it is half way from the baseline to the cap height.
