This week I worked on finishing my Cheshire Cat toy.
First, I created a jig so I could place the laser cut pieces in the correct space. After gluing the plywood backing together, I sanded, then filled the cracks with wood filler for a smoother finish. I then taped off the dichroic cracks so the paint did not leak in.
Next I sprayed two coats of primer on, then two layers of pink, then I taped off a stripe down the middle of the wood backing and painted two coats of purple to create the striped effect visible on the front on the back as well. Afterwards, I drilled on a french cleat.
After the outside was finished, I continued to refine the face. It took many tries to produce the correct size tiles to make the dichroic face work.
